Announcing The Running of the WIPs
It's a process-first, writer-focused, community core guided writing challenge.
Dear Writer,
I am so excited to announce the Running of the WIPs (also known as rotWIPs, because it’s an acronym so terrible it kind of works), a new process-first, writer-focused, community core guided writing challenge that will run from September to May.
I’ve been loving the Year of Writing Magically workshop, but in the process of doing it, I’ve realized two things.
One, as people returned from the first cohort to join the second, even after I’d already taught them everything, I realized that this wasn’t a workshop; it was an experience.
Two, I want to make this process accessible to way more writers. I’ve seen what it’s done for the people in the two cohorts I’ve run, but I can only do this with 20 writers every year.
I’ve been trying to think of a way to scale the experience, to make it more affordable and accessible, and open it up to larger groups of writers, and I think I’ve figured it out.
And what I figured out is… rotWIPs. The Running of the WIPs. Ridiculous, right?
Yes. And wonderfully, messily so.
If you’re interested in writing a long-form fiction project, and think you might be able to do it between September ‘24 and June ‘25 if you had experienced guidance and a small community of like-minded writers at your side, then you need to check this out.
Anyway, if you sign up for the free subscription (paid will be available for participants to sign up in August) I’ll be posting short preparatory posts there with writing advice and craft talk over the summer. I’d love to see you there!
In the meantime, I’ll still be posting letters here on Dear Writer as they come to me. Dear Writer is going to be for us as friends, talking about pretty much anything. Running of the WIPs will be for us as writers, trying to get our work written.
Hope to see you there!
Everything,
L
