Dear Writer is a love letter to writers.
I’m a NYT bestselling author of 12 novels.
The last one was published in 2015.
I had a pretty wicked traumatic experience a few years back that has made it really hard for me to read and write fiction, two of my favorite things. I’ve been told that trauma changes your brain. Maybe my brain doesn’t work the way it used to. Maybe I just can’t write or read fiction anymore.
Maybe.
But maybe not.
So I’m going to start working on that. Today. With this newsletter, which will have two parts; one dedicated to writing, and the other, to reading.
The Dear Writer letters, which will be short and frequent and designed to inspire you to write, will (hopefully) be coming at you every day.
The story and analysis of what I’m reading will be the paid part. Most of what I’ve read in recent years, I’ve only been able to read because someone needed me to. Either a writing coaching client, or something for a podcast. I figure if you guys are paying me, I’ll do it, and maybe that will make fiction reading more accessible to me.
I don’t know what the first book will be. I’m going to pick one off my Kindle and start reading and then report in to you guys.
That’s the plan. It’s not much of a plan, but it’s what I’m going to do.
Thank you for subscribing. I hope, in turn, I’ll be able to help you write as well.
Everything,
Lani
