DW Extra: Poll results, the plan

Dear Writer,

After polling, the people who want a weekly email edged out the dailies, 55% to 45%, but it was a squeaker. So, I’m doing both. ;)

For the Dailies, I will post Monday through Friday on the website; you can visit DearWriter.Substack.com every morning after 6 a.m. EST to get your daily dose.

For the Weeklies, on Friday, you’ll receive the digest of what’s been on the site in your email.

I still think daily emails are too much. They stress me out. So I’m glad we have this compromise.

I’ve also been invited to be part of this creator initiative from Substack called Substack Grow. They’re giving me advice every week, and I’m gonna see if we can’t grow the subscribers to the thing. Right now, I haven’t told that many people, but I’m going to work on that.

Because of that, and because I started out with absolutely no idea what I’m doing here, some things will change from time to time as I go in new directions to build a newsletter that is sustainable for me, and useful for you.

So here’s how I’m adjusting now.

DAILY/FREE:

The Daily posts are going to be structured, and quick. Every day, I’m going to give you a quick thing to think about with regard to writing. Here’s the plan:

MONDAY: The Inspiration

On Mondays, we’ll start the week with a quick “You got this” message.

TUESDAY: The Fat Orange Cat

On Tuesdays, you get a random thing, concept or word for you to include in your work this week. Trust me, this helps a stupid lot when you’re stuck.

WEDNESDAY: The Trope

Wednesdays, we’re gonna talk about a random trope or writing device or character archetype as a jumping off point.

THURSDAY: The Q&A

Every daily post will have a Q&A button; hit it and send me your question. I’ll answer it on Thursday. Please send your questions now so I have something for Thursday!

FRIDAY: The Practical

On Fridays, I’ll tell you about what I’m watching/reading/seeing out there in practice that’s given me The Thinks with regard to writing.

SATURDAY/PAID

SATURDAY: The Personal

For the paid subscribers, Saturdays will be similar to what I’ve been doing for all the posts. I’ll write a personal letter, from me to you, about what I’m thinking about. The paid tier includes the podcast, and links to excerpts from the book as I work through my goal of finishing the old novel first draft by Nanowrimo, and starting something new at November 1.*

All right! The new setup starts this week. Let’s see how it goes.
