Dear Writer,
We have this mindset in America* where you have to be tough. There’s stuff you don’t want to do, but you must push through and tough it out and force yourself because life is a constant stream of doing stuff you don’t want to do, and even the things you want to do—like, say, write—are not things that you always want to do, and when you don’t want to? Tough.
Write anyway.
I don’t think we should all just wait around for inspiration, because there’s a certain point where that becomes a tool of procrastination. At the same time, I don’t think we have to be so mean to ourselves about it. You can still write (or do anything, really) with inspiration without waiting for it to just randomly arrive.
You just have to learn how to call it to you.
So this week, we’re going to build inspiration avatars, and learn how to call them to us.
First job; anthropomorphize your avatar. Give them a name, a personality. Like a muse.
Or… what’s the animal version of anthropomorphize? You can do that, too. Pick an animal that loves you, that wants to be with you, that races to your side when you call them.
Whatever form your avatar takes, imagine them as a real, living entity. Search the internet and find a picture of them. Name them. We’ll work more with that tomorrow…
Everything,
L
*It may be elsewhere as well, but I can only speak to America.
I love this idea, and now I'm obsessed with thinking about what kind of animal would my inspiration be if it was an animal. Brilliant! :)
