Such a Good Boy
Dear Writer,
Hopefully by now your inspiration avatar has a form and a name. Mine is Max.
Max is a border collie with loads of energy and endless enthusiasm. There is nothing Max loves more than to pick up little bits of inspiration and bring them to me, dropping them at my feet. He’s also a herder by nature, except he herds other things out. He circles around me chasing away distractions. He’s incredibly smart and funny and when he talks, he sounds like Ted Lasso.
“Well, Lani, I’ll be honest with you. I don’t know if that idea is going to work, either. But I tell you what. Why don’t you just give it a try and if it doesn’t fly we’ll just tell it goodbye on the sly and have us a nice slice of key lime pie?”
Because that’s the kind of shit Max says. It doesn’t always make sense, but it’s always kind and supportive and hopeful. He is SUCH A GOOD BOY.
But here’s the thing; I forget about Max. A lot. I forget to call him to me. I forget to feed him treats. Honestly, sometimes, I forget he exists. And when I do, he wanders off to inspire someone else, because he doesn’t know I need him if I don't call him to me.
But he’s always listening for me. And when I call he runs to my side.
You know, eventually. Because he’s BUSY. Have you ever seen a border collie?
They. Don’t. Stop.
More tomorrow.
Everything,
L
