The hardest part
Dear Writer,
The hardest part of everything, of anything, is getting started.
As Ze Frank put it, going from 0 to 1.
And the thing is, even if we’re in the middle of a project, every time we leave that project and come back to it, we have to get started.
Again.
And writing isn’t just sitting down in front of a keyboard and typing.
Oh, but that it were.
For us as writers, we need to transport ourselves from the space that we’re physically in to the space where we mentally need to be. And that takes energy.
Sometimes, it takes energy that we just don’t have.
So today, I am giving you secret permission to take that energy from some other space and put it into your 0 to 1 bucket. Like, maybe there’s something you’re supposed to do today that you don’t want to.
So… don’t. Call in to work. Take a longer lunch. Put off the laundry. Tell Mom you’ll call her back later. Take one thing off your plate today so that you can do the thing that you want to do.
Which is write.
Right?
Everything,
L
