Dear Writer,

This is our first Q&A week, and I’m loving this one because it’s something I feel strongly about.

Quitting.

Q: What does it say about me if I stop writing? I felt called to it thirty years ago. I wanted to write more than anything. I felt joyful when I wrote and it was fun, but it doesn’t feel like that anymore. Every now and again, it’s a little fun, but mostly I just want to be doing other things. I always thought I’d write more when I retired, but I’m going to retire from my day job next year and my feelings toward writing during retirement are ambivalent at best. Should I just quit and give up? Or do I need to keep pushing through? Can you be called at thirty and done at sixty?
